Angela Utsey

Dean of Academic for Grades 3-5

Angela is joining HLA with 10 years of educational experience. Angela began her career as a paraprofessional. She then spent 5 years as a 4th grade general education teacher. During her time in the classroom she perfected her classroom culture and ability to grow scholars based on their academic needs. In 2020, Angela transitioned into a Dean of Academics role for grades 3 – 5 and most recently has been a Dean of Academics for Middle School. In the Dean position Angela focused on managing and supporting the educational and developmental needs of scholars. Additionally, she supported and guided teachers in instructional practices, professional development, and classroom management. Angela believes that education is the passport to the future. Through consistent support and personalized instruction scholars are able to succeed and make great gains.

Angela earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from The City College of New York (CUNY). She holds a teacher certification in Childhood Education 1 – 6. In her free-time Angela enjoys spending time with family and friends, indulging in self-care, and listening to music.
